Bermudian Nahki Wells opened the scoring in Huddersfield Town’s Championship clash with Derby County today, but it was not enough.

Wells scored his sixth goal of the season in the 14th minute, tapping in a Danny Ward cross from two yards out. It was to be the highlight of an otherwise frustrating affair for the Terriers. Wells almost netted a brace seven minutes later but was denied by a one-handed save from Derby goalkeeper Lee Grant.

Derby County stormed back with three goals. Wells’ teammate Joel Lynch was sent off after being shown a second yellow card shortly before halftime. Derby’s Johnny Russell leveled shortly before the break, Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies deflected the ball into his own goal shortly after half and a Chris Martin penalty sealed a 3-1 Derby win.

Huddersfield defender Peter Clarke was sent off in the 57th, meaning the Terriers finished the final third of the game with nine men.  The victory means Derby now sits third in the table.

Huddersfield Town, meanwhile, is currently 17th in the table and six points clear of the relegation zone with four matches left in the season. The Terriers face Brighton & Hove Albion at home next Friday.
