At noon yesterday, the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a satellite telephone call from the captain of merchant vessel 'Amber L', a 25,955 GRT Bulk Carrier registered in Panama, advising that a 64 year old Greek national on board was suffering from a heart related illness and needed to be taken ashore. The vessel then 240 miles East of Bermuda, had departed New Orleans a few days earlier bound for Jorf Lasfar in Morocco. Following medical advice from the Red Cross in Greece, and after it was confirmed that the patient was in a stable condition, the 'Amber L' diverted to a rendezvous position 2 miles East of Bermuda.

At 9:30 a.m. today, the patient was successfully taken by stretcher to the pilot boat St. David and transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Ordnance Island in St. George's harbour.
