“Your perspiration is my inspiration” could be the sign you
hold up as your cheer on the runners who took time out to sign up, pay for the
race and find sponsors to donate to worthy causes across the island when they
run the Appleby Bermuda Half Marathon Derby this Monday. Or you could be the
sponsor, taking the time out to donate to that worthy cause. Well Race for
Change is one group setting out to raise attention and money for the
Cornerstone Foundation, one of those worthy causes helping Bermudians.
Some great teams have signed up to run the half marathon
together in support of Race for Change. Teams like “the Grannies” and “the Road
Runners” consisting of four runners each, and Tyler Butterfield, Bermuda’s own
internationally known Triathlon champion and Olympian, has signed up to run for
Race for Change as well. There’s still time to sign up and support Race
for Change for the Cornerstone Foundation, whose main objective is to provide
support for youth, at-risk youth and incarcerated youth so that they can become
active and respected members of society.
The Cornerstone Foundation provides mentoring programs for
youth in schools, as well as in the Co-Ed Facility through their Youth Impact
Mentoring Program. The Back to Work program works in a similar manner, taking
incarcerated youths and giving them the opportunity to prove to themselves and
others that they are contributing members of society by providing them with a
job and the support they need to maintain it. The Cornerstone Foundation also
supports and works with Foster Care Programs and overseas programs in places
like Cambodia and Haiti. They hold an annual Christmas Store event where they
provide much needed essentials at a reduced price to those who need the hand up
during the holiday season. They also run the Cornerstone Kids Camp for two
weeks during the summer for at-risk youth.
Tyler Butterfield explains his reasons for running with Race
for Change: "These programs and help are vital in changing people’s
lives for the better and it is because of Foundations like Cornerstone
Foundation and fundraiser like Race for Change that it is possible. So for me
to do a small part in helping raise funds is a privilege and honor. I’m blessed
to be able to do it. I want to thank everyone that is helping run the
Cornerstone Foundation, Race for Change and all the running and pledging. It is
a great thing to be part of and changes lives for the better here in Bermuda
and around the world."
Doesn’t that sound like a cause worth running for? Or
donating to? If you want to support Tyler Butterfield or another one of the
runners or groups supporting Race for Change, you can contact the Cornerstone
