A 27-year-old man has been found guilty of taking part in a brutal attack that left a man with a punctured lung and a broken jaw.

Frederick Swann set upon Damon Robinson in the early hours of August 15 last year outside Champions Nightclub in Hamilton.

During an eight-day trial at the Supreme Court a jury heard how Swann and another man, Jermaine Simmons, repeatedly punched and kicked Mr. Robinson during the beating.

Mr. Robinson, 32, was knocked unconscious during the attack and suffered bleeding on the brain.

Mr. Swann of Pembroke had claimed he had acted in self defence.

But the jury rejected his account and convicted him of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent yesterday evening.

He was remanded in custody until he is sentenced at a later date.

Jurors were told that Mr. Simmons fled the island after the attack and has not returned to Bermuda since.

His ex girlfriend, Carlena Caines, was cleared of helping him to skip the island.

Ms Caines, 29, of Pembroke had always denied a charge of being an accessory after the fact to a felony.
