MONDAY, JUNE 20: A 33-year-old man was today in serious condition in hospital after an alleged burglary at a Pembroke apartment.

The man – who has not been named – was assaulted inside an apartment in Pembroke’s Middletown Lane around 3:45am.

Neighbours said that they were aware an incident had happened, but did not know any details.

There was no answer at the property where the incident took place.

A police spokesman described the incident as a “reported burglary.”

He added: “Details about what occurred are unclear at this time. It appears that an unknown intruder gained entry into the home and was confronted by a male occupant.

“The intruder sustained serious injuries and was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

“The occupants were not injured and enquiries into the incident are underway.”

A hospital spokeswoman described the man’s condition as “stable” in the intensive care unit.
