A man who helped his girlfriend smuggle more than $20,000 worth of cannabis into Bermuda has been jailed.

Jason Fox, 35, and Kezia De Silva, 23, strapped vacuum-packed packages of marijuana to De Silva’s legs in a bid to get past Customs officers at L.F. Wade International Airport.

De Silva was stopped and searched at the airport when the pair arrived in Bermuda on June 16.

Fox paid for the tickets from Canada to Bermuda and his DNA was found on the inside of the packages when they were forensically tested.

At Supreme Court today, Fox was jailed for two years for his part in the operation.

He told the court he was sorry for his actions and “should have been a better and bigger man”.

De Silva had previously been sentenced to nine months in prison.

Fox admitted possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
